Anti-Skimming Device that “Detects and Protects”

ATM Parts Co Ltd, a division of Acal’s Supply Chain group, announces the launch of the ATM-ASD101, a new pro-active anti-skimming device in the battle to protect ATM users.

The ATM-ASD101 works on an anti-skimming  “detect and protect” design philosophy, rather than the physical and visible deterrent, that can run the risk of alarming users. Using frequency hopping technology, the ATM-ASD101 detects ‘alien’ radio frequency (RF) transmissions, such as those from wireless spy cameras, and once detected it initiates the response that the financial institution demands, thus protecting the unsuspecting customers and their card details. Options for the countermeasure range from placing the ATM into 'supervisor' mode, though to triggering a CCTV camera or a silent alarm. Operating in this fashion allows the ATM-ASD101 to be independent of the card reader and is therefore position independent within the ATM.

Working in harmony with: cellular phones, WLANs, WiFi devices, DECT phones, Bluetooth devices and police/taxi radios to eliminate false alarms, the ATM-ASD101 also calibrates out the ambient background RF noise to ensure that the ‘alien’ RF signal is successfully detected. Once the ‘alien’ wireless transmission has been removed, either by the criminal or the ATM operator, the ATM-ASD101 automatically releases the NCR ATM to recover to its original state.

Ease of installation has been taken into account, for the ATM-ASD101, throughout the design cycle resulting in a simple yet effective process that does not require the ATM to be taken out of service and refurbished, it can typically be installed and operational on site in less than an hour.
